Bismarck – German battleship from World War II, built at the Blohm und Voss shipyard in Hamburg

The Bismarck, the flagship of the German Navy, was next to the Tirpitz the largest German warship and had 50,900 tons of displacement and 2,092 crew. Put into service on 24.08.1940, she ran on 18.05.1941 to the operation Rheinübung. However, together with the Prince Eugen you was discovered early by the British air reconnaissance. 

When meeting with the Hood this was sunk on 24.05.1941 by the Bismarck. After a long pursuit, she received on May 26, 1941 an aircraft torpedo hit and was provided by the British battleships King George V and HMS Rodney. On 27.05. their own crew sinks the Bismarck 490 km off the French coast.
